Valley of the Fox Chapter

The SIERRA Club is a multi-national environmental organization, founded by John Muir in 1892, with over 750,000 members in the U.S. and Canada. The IL Chapter has 15 local Groups including the Valley of the Fox Group [founded in 1992] with over 1000 members. VOF membership has doubled in the past 5 years.

The motto of the Club is to Enjoy, Preserve and Protect The Wild Places On Earth. The VOF members have taken that quite seriously by being involved in many environmental projects on the local scene as well as State and National. The SC is non-profit but not tax-free because WE DO lobby as many of your elected officials can affirm. VOF members are involved in several Kane & Kendall County projects, Clean Air monitoring beginning this summer, chemical monitoring of the Fox River and 12 tributaries over the past 5 years, award winning participation in the battle against coal burning power plants, amongst many. We have lobbied State agencies to set and enforce policies to make the Fox Valley a healthier place to live for our families and for our future. We support the Kane County 2020 Plan and oppose the corridor protection proposal for western Kane and Kendall Counties without an environmental impact statement and needs assessment. We do not oppose progress, but we do oppose blind progress. We also sponsor outdoor activities, led by trained leaders with emphasis on having fun but being responsible and practicing "Leave No Trace" techniques. We also sponsor programs for Singles.

The VOF Group meets the second Monday of every month at 7:30 p.m. except July/Aug at the Kane County Events Center Campbell House. Visit our web site www.sierraclub.org/chapters/il/vof or call the Fox Info Line @ 630-375-7826. All meetings are free and open to the public. You need not be a member to participate in any of our programs.
