Village of Algonquin |
The
mission of the people of Algonquin is to foster a
harmonious, distinctive community with a strong sense of
place, preserving its ecological and historical
richness, providing a safe and comfortable environment
through a responsible use of community resources, and
developing ownership and pride in the community through
significant citizen involvement in all civic, social,
and cultural affairs. To this end, we will provide for
the needs of today, prepare for the demands of tomorrow,
and remain mindful and respectful of the past.
The Village of Algonquin prides itself on being a leader
in its use of sustainable practices. For years the
Village and its citizens have worked hard to have nature
preserves, recycling, energy efficiency, protected
natural areas, and abundant parkspace, while still
providing the services and amenities of a growing
metropolitan community. That stated, the Village of
Algonquin is pleased to present the concept of
ECO-ALGONQUIN! ECO-ALGONQUIN is not the latest fad,
trend, or buzzword; it's standard operating procedure.
Whether it is developing expansive parks and trails,
being recognized as a Tree City USA, converting grass
detention ponds into naturalized areas, or even using
vegetable oil for fueling our fleet; these are hardly
new initiatives but things the Village has been doing
for years. ECO-ALGONQUIN is designed to bring together
these wonderful programs and ideas to ENGAGE, CONSERVE,
and OPTIMIZE our resources to work toward building a
more sustainable Algonquin. |

Applied Ecological Services (AES) |
As one of the leading ecological sciences firms in the
U.S., AES specializes in ecological analysis, ecological
restoration, monitoring sciences, and education, with
specialists in wetland plant propagation, environmental
mensuration, stream restoration, wetland mitigation and
mitigation banking, and in the design, creation,
restoration and management of natural areas. AES was
founded in 1978 by Mr. Steven Apfelbaum with the
objective to design well conceived environmental
restoration projects that meet the objectives of both
the client and the regulatory requirements. In addition
to the firm’s consulting services, AES has the
capability to draw upon the resources of the Taylor
Creek Restoration Nurseries. Taylor Creek is a full
service nursery for native seeds and seedlings of the
prairies, woodlands and wetlands, including contract
growing services. AES also has a full service
contracting division that implements restoration
construction, management, monitoring and research
projects. AES has a full time staff of 55 highly
qualified individuals supplemented by up to 30 seasonal
employees that are available for AES consulting projects
and construction work.
AES develops resource management plans for
municipalities, federal and state agencies and private
clients. AES regards resource management, land
reclamation, and ecosystem restoration projects as
serious and creative acts of environmental stewardship.
We design creative, cost effective programs that are
definitive and environmentally sound. First we gather
relevant data that characterizes the environmental
conditions at a project site. After review of this
data, plans are prepared for the property. As part of
management planning we often design monitoring programs
to determine management prescriptions as well as the
effectiveness of the restoration installation.
Management planning and restoration services are
performed in an appropriate time context after
discussion with clients and exploration of applicable
regulations.
