Government Relations

The annual Conversations About Conservation With Our Legislators program, traditionally held in March, is now being planned for September 2010. Watch this page for details.

The Government Relations Committee was created to strengthen our ability to connect with our local, State and Federal representatives.  The committee welcomes new members and suggestions on how to achieve the following goals for the Government Relations Committee, taken from FREP's Strategic Work Plan for 2002-2005:
Focus on reaching politicians and decision-makers on two scales:
Macro: state and federal, which includes elected officials and their staff
Micro: local counties and municipalities, including elected officials, staff, and appointed members of boards and commissions.

Establish and maintain meaningful contacts with all federal and state elected officials and/or their staff
1. Educate and inform politicians and decision-makers on goals of the Integrated Management Plan; direct efforts        both individually and through related committees and groups, e.g. Illinois Growth Task Force.
2. Inform legislators of FREP’s activities and goals within their district.
3. Develop materials to use in communication, e.g. fact sheet, survey data.

Create and maintain a database of all federal, state, and local officials; expand to include boards and commissions when possible.
