Fox Valley Park Dist. Rain
Garden and Re-Developed Spring Lake Park
Presenters:

Location: Spring Lake, McCoy &
Frontenac, Aurora
Spring Lake Park is located in Aurora on the corner of McCoy and
Frontenac just west of the Fox Valley Mall. The east full
entrance is shared with Aurora’s service center and fire
station.
Spring Lake is the head water of Waubonsie Creek and was created
in the early 70’s. The park was re-developed last year and has
several elements that should be of interest: Shoreline
restoration by developer who gained detention credit, two
pervious paver lots, bio swales, rain garden, boat dock and
ramp, and an observation deck.
A special focus will be on the rain garden at this park, as a
part of FREP's Kane County Rain Garden Initiative to promote the
use of rain gardens and BMPs in stormwater management.

| FREP Annual Conversations About Conservation With Our
Legislators |
| Our annual event, usually held in March, has been postponed.
The FREP Government Relations Committee is working to reschedule
the program in September 2010 and it will be held in the
northern section of the watershed. Watch for details in this
newsletter and on our Website. |

| EPA 319 FY11 Grant Package from the Fox
River Watershed |
The FREP grant committee met with applicants on June 3 to
help them fine-tune their grants which are part of the grant
package being submitted from the Fox River Watershed to the EPA
319 Grant Program. This process started in January and the
package is due the end of July. Our thanks to the many who are
working on grants for our watershed, and to the FREP volunteers
who are assisting them.

| FREP Annual Membership Dues |
FREP's fiscal year runs July 1 -
June 30, with dues statements sent out in September and
due by the end of November. With the cutback in
grants, FREP membership dues are vital to FREP and we appreciate
your support.
If you are planning budgets now and/or would like to pay your
dues before the September statements are sent, here is the new
2010-11 FREP Membership Form.

Subwatersheds - much of the information on
the old site was outdated. One of FREP's goals is to promote
activity and stewardship within the subwatersheds of the Fox.
The main subwatersheds are listed on this page, with currently
available information. There are other small subwatershed that
may not be even listed here. Please contact us if you have
information to share or interest in a particular subwatershed.

page are just a start. There are boundless other resources we
could share. Please email us your favorite "green" links.

Rain Garden Initiative - Thanks to a grant from the
Kane County Riverboat Grant Program, FREP has been able to
establish the Kane County Rain Garden Initiative. Because rain
gardens benefit the entire watershed, the resources on these
pages are for all.
Rain Garden Registry - We are especially
eager to build a database of rain gardens that exist, are being
built, or are planned for in the Fox watershed. Visit the page
link and complete and return the form to include your rain
garden in this registry. |
